Memorandom: a memory game built under a deadline

Published on:

A memory game sounds simple until the player loses track of what changed. For DressCode’s 2021 Halloween Hackathon, I built Memorandom, a card-matching game with classic and advanced modes.

Memorandom’s classic card-matching board

The classic Memorandom board before the first turn.

Each turn asks the player to remember the board, reveal a pair, and wait for the game to resolve it. That made state and feedback the real work. The game had to make a match, a miss, and the next turn obvious without explaining itself at length.

I built it solo with Vite, Vue, Vue Router, Vuex, and Tailwind CSS. It placed second in the challenge, as DressCode announced on Instagram, but the useful lesson was smaller: a familiar mechanic can still feel considered when the rules are clear and the interactions have enough care.

Memorandom was a good reminder that hackathons reward finished choices. A polished small game has more life than a larger idea that never reaches its playable form.
